Our Events

These are the schedule of events that have occurred or are planned for Spring 2011:

1. Friday, Jan. 21 - Welcome to the New Servery! 12-1 pm, Lovett Commons – We would like to welcome all Associates to join us for lunch at the newly completed East Servery, which is the new Servery for Lovett. We hope you will join us to try the new kitchen, as well as catch up with students and hear their stories from winter break!

2. Sunday, Jan. 23 - Associates Wine and Cheese Event with Lovett Seniors: 4-6 pm, Founder’s Room – This special event is held only once a year. Our Masters, Matteo and Marie, helped to host this formal event and provided wine and cheese from around the world. Thank you to Bryan Hassin, John Eldridge, and Angel Marti for helping with the event and introducing the wines! The event was a great success, please see the pictures below.

3. Friday, Jan. 28 - Associates Lunch: 12:00-1:00 pm, Lovett PDR – Join us for lunch at the new PDR, and we will be hosting a discussion between students and Associates on an interesting topic, soon to be decided.  If you have any topic that you would like to suggest, we would be happy to hear about it, so please email us at lovettassoc@gmail.com.

4. Saturday, Feb. 12 - Lovett Associates Buddy (LAB) Event: Dinner + Shepherd Recital - For this LAB event, students and LABs will meet at Lovett Commons to carpool to the Rice Village for dinner at 5:30 pm. After dinner, we will go to the Shepherd School of Music Recital from 8-10 pm. Further details will be sent by email in the near future.

5. Friday, Feb. 18 - Associates Lunch: 12-1 pm, Lovett PDR – Our second Associates Lunch of the semester, with a new discussion topic.

6. Friday, Mar. 18 - Associates Lunch: 12-1 pm, Lovett PDR – Please join us for lunch on Friday for our March Associates Lunch. We will be discussing health care reform and would welcome your opinions. Is the individual mandate constitutional? We hope you will be able to join us!

 

7. Thursday, April 7 - Associates Banquet – Join us at the Masters’ House for reception, followed by dinner and senior awards. The theme of our Associates Banquet will be Havana Night! We are also incredibly lucky to have Mayor Annise Parker (a Rice alum!) as a special guest speaker at the event.

 

These are the schedule of events that occurred in Fall 2010:

1. September 15 – Lovett Associate Buddies (LABs) Meet-and-greet: students are grouped with Associates, and everyone comes together to meet their group and discover common interests.  This is a great way for both students and associates to meet new people at Lovett, and this allows associates to have a close tie with some students, so they can feel comfortable coming to any meals at Lovett.

2. September 22 – Leaving the Hedges: Planning for the Future - an event led by Anna Grassini in which associates and upperclassmen come together in an informal setting to talk about how to plan for after graduation, and associates offer advice on how to start a career and how to use the Rice network to help.

3. October 6, 13, and 20 – Dinner Series: Planning for the Future – for the first 3 Wednesdays in October, Anna Grassini will host a dinner from 5:30 – 7 pm in the Lovett Basement Blue Room for students, where she will offer advice on building a resume, preparing for a job interview, and networking (All associates are welcome to attend).

4. October 8 – Associates Lunch: Nanotechnology at Rice - Dr. Wade Adams will join us at the Masters House for a lunch presentation and discussion about Nanotechnology at Rice, for Dr. Adams is the Director of the Smalley Institute for Nanoscale Science and Technology. Join us at the Lovett Masters House at 12 pm.

5. October 23 – LAB Event: Dinner Outside the Hedges - All LABs (Lovett Associate Buddies) are invited to attend a dinner outing, where LAB groups will go out at 6 pm to enjoy dinner in the Houston area or at the associates’ houses, if they are willing to host.

6. November 4, 5:30 pm: ASSOCIATES BANQUET! Join us at the Masters House for a reception, followed by a special dinner and an exciting speaker, Mattress Mac, who will tell us a bit about his inspirational life story.
